Thirteen Pings, and the First Decision Was the Kitchen — Constraint as the Condition for Precision
Design doesn't begin with abundance. It begins with the pressure to be exact.
Design doesn't begin its work when there is abundance. It produces under constraint, for the sake of an exact solution. Thirteen pings — about 43 square meters.
The First Decision: Where the Kitchen Goes
The first decision in the space was the position of the kitchen. Once fixed, the open kitchen had a direction to face; once fixed, the bar could begin to consider what form should greet the people sitting down at it.
The bar is an arc — not because arcs are beautiful. The arc draws both ends inward, so the people at the far left and far right lean naturally toward the center. Guests at the bar keep their distance from one another, yet share a sense of gathering — like a round table, not a queue. The custom pendant's curve aligns with the bar's radius; light falls from above, and the open kitchen becomes the visual core of the space.
Four Systems, No Ceiling Panel
Exhaust, ventilation, air conditioning, and lighting all had to coexist. Most projects handle this by boxing them in — making them disappear. Our choice was to let them stay, but redefine how they exist: duct runs aligned with the structural logic, the custom curved light band matched to the bar's radius, the ceiling speaking the same sentence as the floor.
Systems are not problems to be hidden. They are materials to be designed.
