曲面沒有通解

弧面能把柱子吃進去，前提是那個面不能有破綻。斷一次，柱子就露出來。所以這個案子的難處不在造型，在每一段曲面的收法。
機器做形，人做面
石材是機器下料的，一節一節切好，現場再接起來。形狀機器做得到，面做不到。
機器磨過的面會有折光，同一片石上反光率不一樣。曲面一有高光，光就會沿著弧拉出一條假的邊，人看到的是那條高光，不是形。所以霧面只能用手，一段一段磨，磨到反光壓掉才停。
這跟石材硬不硬沒有關係。霧面是一種感受，機器給不了，只能靠人慢慢磨出來。
兩種碎石，一種原理
主牆和地坪的橢圓是同一塊多尼亞灰。它是角礫岩，碎掉的石塊被重新膠結在一起。地坪大面積的水磨石是同一件事，只是換人做：骨材倒進去，再磨平。一個是地質做的，一個是現場倒的，兩種材料擺在一起不用互相遷就。
圓角是清潔的決定
浴室的圓角走另一條路。轉角的圓弧是 3D 列印直接成型，當基底用，上面做面層、粉光，最後才上藝術漆。整間浴室沒有一個 90 度內角。這不是為了視覺統一，是為了清潔。直角的內縫會積水垢，刷子伸不到底，圓角沒有那條縫。
樑身的那片側板
客廳上方橫著一支大樑。一般的處理是包起來、降板，把設備往下掛。我們讓弧面從樑下往上斜，空出來的位置留給機具。樑身上做了一片造型側板，平常闔著，跟天花是同一個面。投影幕下降，側板同時翻起，畫面從那道細縫打出去。投影機沒有進到視線裡。
判斷全部移到最前面
天花的圓在木作階段做，地坪的圓在泥作階段做，中間隔了幾個月，兩批工班沒有碰過面。兩個圓要在垂直方向對得上，放樣就得在最前面一次定死。之後沒有人可以在現場說再看看。
這不是施工順序的問題，是決定權的問題。

A curved surface can only swallow a column if the surface itself has no flaw in it; break it once and the column comes back. The stone is machine-cut, section by section, and assembled on site: a machine will give you the shape, but not the surface. A machine-ground face refracts unevenly, so reflectance varies across a single slab, and on a curve any highlight draws a false edge along it, so that what you read is the highlight rather than the form. The matte had to be ground by hand, section by section, until the sheen was gone. This has nothing to do with the hardness of the stone. Matte is a feeling, and a machine cannot give it to you. That same feature wall and the ellipse in the floor are one grey breccia, broken rock cemented back together, and the terrazzo underfoot is the same idea made by hand. The bathrooms arrive at their curves another way: the rounded corners are 3D-printed directly and used as the substrate, then given a skim coat, a smoothing coat and finally art plaster, leaving not one internal right angle in the room, because a square internal joint collects scale where no brush reaches. Above the living room a deep beam is neither boxed in nor dropped; the curved surface rakes up beneath it and a shaped panel set into the side of the beam sits closed flush with the ceiling, lifting as the screen descends so the image can pass through the slot it opens. And because the ceiling circles were built in joinery months after the floor circles were laid, by two crews who never met on site, the setting out had to be fixed once at the very beginning, with nothing left to be judged later. A curve has no general solution. Each one has to be solved twice: once as a shape, once as a method.
